In Parashat Shavua, I write shorter, occasional reflections on the weekly Torah portion and Jewish holidays. These pieces begin with Jewish texts and philosophy, and follow the questions they raise about how we live. They have their own section, separate from the main essay feed.
The name open endedness comes from a concept in artificial life research: open-ended evolution, where a system continues to produce novel and increasingly complex forms without converging on a final state. I think the best thinking works the same way.
Most of what appears here is somewhere between a first draft and a final one. That's intentional. I'm more interested in showing the trajectory of an idea than in presenting it fully formed.
